The Adult Chair® Podcast: Healing Generational Limiting Beliefs

I had the privilege of joining my coach and mentor, Michelle Chalfant, on her show, The Adult Chair Podcast. We discussed how I help women in middle age, who are often seeking change, to write a new life story by incorporating The Adult Chair Model® and my Explore, Heal, and Transform method. This conversation was deeply enriching, focusing on how beliefs formed in our past can affect our present emotional wellness and how healing these emotions can lead to empowerment.

Step Into Your Power

“When you are in your power, I truly believe you are in overflow. And when you are in overflow, you are able to then feed and provide and share and help build up others.” – LaShonda Walker

Exploring the Past:

The "A New Life Story" process begins with exploring the past, encouraging individuals to delve into their personal history to uncover the root causes of their current challenges. Reflecting on past experiences, childhood memories, and significant events helps identify deep-seated limiting beliefs and emotional patterns. For example, one of my clients realized that her fear of overworking and burnout stemmed from observing her grandmother's workaholic tendencies. By exploring the past, individuals can gain insights into the origins of their limiting beliefs and emotional patterns, paving the way for healing and transformation.

Healing the Present:

The next step in the process is healing the present, where individuals work on addressing and resolving the emotional barriers and limiting beliefs that are affecting their current lives. This involves acknowledging and processing the emotions and triggers that arise from past experiences. Often, clients experience breakthroughs and realizations during this phase. By identifying the source of their emotional challenges, they can begin to heal and release the negative patterns holding them back. Through journaling exercises, unwinding questions, and introspection, clients can start to shift their perspectives and develop a deeper understanding of their emotions and thought patterns.

Transforming the Legacy:

The final stage of the process is transforming the legacy, where individuals work towards rewriting their narratives and creating a new empowering story for themselves and future generations. This step is crucial for breaking free from generational patterns and limiting beliefs. By embracing their authentic selves and reclaiming their power, individuals can create a positive impact on their families and communities. The process involves integrating the insights gained from exploring the past and healing the present to create a new narrative that aligns with the individual's values, goals, and aspirations.

Empowerment:

The ultimate goal of the process is empowerment. This step involves recognizing the resilience, strength, and authenticity within each individual. Empowerment leads to a sense of abundance, freedom, and connection with others. By sharing their stories and supporting one another, individuals can create a ripple effect of healing and transformation in their lives and communities. Through empowerment, individuals can break free from self-imposed limitations, embrace their true selves, and inspire others to embark on their journey of self-discovery and growth.

This process facilitates profound transformations by helping clients explore their past experiences and connect them to present challenges. By tapping back into past experiences and understanding their impact on present circumstances, clients can gain clarity and insight into their behaviors and thought patterns. This awareness allows them to release old patterns and beliefs, leading to empowerment and self-discovery.

Incorporating the Adult Chair® Model, also helps clients reflect on their relationships, gain a deeper understanding of their family dynamics, and foster forgiveness and compassion. This newfound awareness and empowerment enable clients to step into their authentic selves and make positive changes in their lives. Through self-reflection, healing past wounds, and embracing personal growth, clients can break free from limiting beliefs and emotional barriers, leading to a profound sense of empowerment and self-discovery.
